AOSC 15-26 | IN RE: DISTRICT COURT OF APPEAL BUDGET COMMISSION

The District Court of Appeal Budget Commission was created to oversee the preparation and implementation of the district court component of the judicial branch budget. The commission is directly responsible for recommending budgeting and funding policies and procedures for the district court budgets, so that the funding requirements of each of the intermediate appellate courts can be adequately addressed while promoting statewide operational consistency.

Florida Rule of Judicial Administration 2.235(e) provides that the voting membership of the commission shall include the chief judge of each district court of appeal, who shall serve for his or her term as chief judge, and one additional judge from each district, who shall serve for a four-year term. The terms of a number of members of the commission have expired, and a number of members who were serving as the second judge from the respective district have transitioned into the chief judge position.

Accordingly, the following chief judges shall serve on the commission until their respective terms as chief judge are completed:
The Honorable L. Clayton Roberts
Chief Judge, First District Court of Appeal

The Honorable Craig C. Villantil
Chief Judge, Second District Court of Appeal

The Honorable Richard J. Suarez
Chief Judge, Third District Court of Appeal

The Honorable Cory J. Ciklin
Chief Judge, Fourth District Court of Appeal

The Honorable C. Alan Lawson
Chief Judge, Fifth District Court of Appeal
Further, in order to maintain staggered terms for voting members as provided in Florida Rule of Judicial Administration 2.235(e)(4), the following judges shall serve as the second judge member from the respective district for the terms indicated. The following members are appointed for a term that expires on June 30, 2017, which is the remainder of the term for the membership held by his or her predecessor:
The Honorable Bradford L. Thomas
First District Court of Appeal

The Honorable Leslie B. Rothenberg
Third District Court of Appeal

The Honorable Wendy W. Berger
Fifth District Court of Appeal
The following members shall serve as the second judge member from the respective district for a term that expires on June 30, 2019:
The Honorable Stevan T. Northcutt
Second District Court of Appeal

The Honorable Jonathan D. Gerber
Fourth District Court of Appeal
Additionally, Florida Rule of Judicial Administration 2.235(e)(2) provides that the chief justice will appoint one member to serve as chair and one member to serve as vice chair of the commission for a four-year term or until the member’s term on the commission expires. In accordance with In re: District Court of Appeal Budget Commission, Fla. Admin. Order No. AOSC13-24 (June 17, 2013), Judge C. Alan Lawson shall continue to serve as chair until June 30, 2017, or until his term on the commission expires. Judge L. Clayton Roberts is hereby designated to serve as vice chair until June 30, 2019, or until his term on the commission expires.

DONE AND ORDERED at Tallahassee, Florida, on August 28, 2015.
